INSULATORS · SOLUTIONS

POLLUTED ENVIRONMENTS

There are many situations where the geographical location of the lines exposes the insulators to environmental conditions that affect their performance.

This applies to areas located in close proximity to some kind of pollution source. The most common cases tend to be coastal regions, industrially polluted areas and agricultural lands.

In all these cases, whether due to the high levels of contaminants, salinity and humidity of the air, the existence of conductive particles in the environment and even cement, chemicals and bird droppings, insulators may face several challenges.

The pollutants can deposit on the surface of the glass insulators, forming a layer of grime or dirt, which can affect their performance. The accumulation of pollutants can also lead to electrical tracking or the formation of conductive paths, which may result in electrical leakage and the useful life of the insulators is reduced. This is the reason why they require greater attention in their design and maintenance.

Depending on the characteristics of the line, and the source of contamination to which it is exposed, our experts choose, design and calculate the ideal solution to guarantee the safety and reliability of supply.

Insulator profiles for polluted environments:

Anti-pollution / Anti-fog profile insulators

We offer two different shapes which are recommended for areas with medium to heavy pollution. Their longer creepage distance, which exceeds the requirements of the IEC 60305 standard, is achieved due to deeper ribs and reduces the effects of pollution without increasing the length of the string.

RTV Coated Insulators

For these environments, we have developed a solution that combines the best properties of glass with the best properties of RTV silicone
