EXTREME COLD

INSULATORS · SOLUTIONS

These extreme cold environments have often generated uncertainty when it comes to the design of the lines.

This is usually the case for lines located in high altitude mountains and in those parts of the globe with extremely low temperatures, often below freezing point.

Insulators are exposed to severe storms and frosts, with layers of ice and snow that can lead to concerns.

One of the main risks in this type of environment is ice formation on the insulators, which can complicate the situation by compromising the electrical performance.

Snow and ice are two very particular types of pollution for which there are different insulation solutions, depending on their specific characteristics, frequency, etc. There is a wealth of documentation with experience in this type of pollution. Our technical department is at your disposal to study, evaluate and propose different solutions for each specific case. We also have specific materials, such as low-temperature fittings, which are highly resistant in extremely cold environments.

Preventing all these possibilities, at La Granja Insulators we test every single insulator produced in our facilities under the most rigorous trials. Not only do we meet the required specifications to be approved by external authorities, but we also exceed them.

Insulator profiles for Extreme cold environments:

In the case of extreme cold environments, as far as there are no pollutions sources nearby, a suitable recommendation would be to install standard profiles insulators, where they perform well due to their small, well-spaced ribs and a creepage distance which exceeds the requirements of the IEC 60305 and ANSI C29.2 standards.
